The HERO Podcast: Creating a Business Plan That Will Walk You to Success Part Three: Identifying the Common Enemy and Tackling Limiting Beliefs

Date

In my last post, I talked about my fatal flaw and how it has held me back at times in my business. Just like me, my clients often have some sort of limiting belief that nags away at them and can make it hard to feel absolute confidence in what they’re doing.

During my discussion with Richard on The HERO Podcast, we talked about this common enemy that my clients struggle with and how I help them work past it so they can reach their goals. No matter how confident someone may be in their business idea, it’s human nature to have a doubt or two.

After over a decade of working with clients, I can say with confidence that they all have a common enemy — the thing that nags them and makes them think that maybe this isn’t such a great idea.

Facing Our Common Enemy

This common enemy can come in different forms. Maybe someone in their life said they would never be successful with their idea. Or maybe it’s their own inner voice saying they can’t do it.

It’s a mixture of fear and doubt that manifests as a lack of self-belief in their own potential.

I realize this may sound a little fluffy coming from someone who is usually all about the numbers, but building a business often requires some work on your mindset in addition to getting your financial plans in order.

When you build a business and commit to this entrepreneurial lifestyle, you have to believe you can do this.

You have to feel confident that no matter what comes your way, no matter what presents itself as a problem, you will be able to conquer it. When you stay diligent, positive and focused, there are no limits to what can be achieved.

Yet, we are filled with limiting beliefs, like:

“I can only make/raise so much money,” or “My business can only grow so much.”

The problem this creates, and I see this with some of my clients, is that they constrict themselves and their own potential with these beliefs.

By choosing to banish these negative thoughts and replace them with an unwavering sense of “Yeah, I can do this!” we begin to shift our mindset towards success.

Opening Our Minds to the Possibilities

Moving your mindset towards believing you can achieve what you set out to do is one of the most freeing and productive things an entrepreneur can do for themselves — and their business.

Sometimes, new entrepreneurs do not know exactly what they want and how it looks in real life. They don’t have a specific amount of money they want to make or a big goal for their business. Instead, they are focused on having a lifestyle where they do not have to worry about how much money they’re bringing in.

For some people, that seems like a dream that they can’t even imagine coming true. That, in itself, is a limiting belief.

Thinking things like: “I can’t do X,” or “I could never achieve Y” slow you down from reaching your final destination.

By ditching these limiting beliefs, we open up our minds to what is possible.
